Box Office Breakdown: High School Musical at the Top of the Class

This past week, the multiplexes had a little bit of something for everyone: politics, animals, music, dancing, thrillers, Oscar contenders and even horror. Not surprisingly, this meant a lot of dollars were shelled out in return.
As expected, the big screen debut of High School Musical 3 had tweeners (and their loving parents) all atwitter. Thanks to a $42 million debut, the G-rated film officially became the best musical opener of all time. (Mamma Mia! - with its $27.8 million - was the previous leader.)
Meanwhile, a film on the other end of the ratings spectrum was scaring up some decent dollars of its own. Saw V, which probably could have waited to premiere on Halloween, took in approximately $30 million over the last three days. Although it was pitted against the highly-anticipated Disney sequel, the movie carved out its own audience and raised first place-worthy numbers. Although the series is currently on its fifth life, the 2008 installment came within $4 million dollars of Saw III, the franchise’s best performer to date.

High School Musical 3 Sets UK Presale Record
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Disney, Musicals, Sequels, Box Office,
Who knew Troy Bolton was bigger than Harry Potter?
In light of UK’s early response to High School Musical 3, don’t be surprised to see another HSM installment in the theaters soon. Even though the movie won’t open for another 3 weeks, the musical has already set overseas presale records.
As of October 1, Odeon Cinemas - UK’s biggest theater chain - has already made £245,205 ($432,504) in advance ticket sales. That figure surpasses the record set by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The fourth wizard film raised £227,000 ($400,393) back in 2005.

VMA Fashion: Who Hit a Sour Note?

Award season is long, fraught with gossip, and seemingly unending. Someone always walks away with a statue - some performers and artists walk away with several. But by the time the same awards are given out the next year, no one really cares who won what the year before.
What we do remember is what they were wearing when they were doing it. People may not remember which Grammy Jennifer Lopez won the year she wore the green Versace gown, but they remember the gown. This year’s VMAs may be remembered for several years - the pictures not of moon men statues, but of the clothes everyone wore.
Whose couture sang the sweetest…and whose fashion was completely discordant?

Yes, yes. You’ve probably already seen the High School Musical 3 trailer, posters and extra clips…but have you see the music video?
While there are no Zac/Vanessa duets in this clip, we do get Sharpay and Ryan belting their hearts out to “I Want It All.” (BTW - I think Ashley Tisdale looks 10x better with a lot less hair.)
You can watch Part II of this song after the jump.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens’ Sexy Photo Spread
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Television, Photos,
Having seen intimate photos of Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron in the Caribbean, I already know those two can be sexy (as a couple) in front of the camera.
But in their fashion spread for the upcoming issue of Elle, the High School Musical stars aren’t the only ones getting cozy. Strangely enough, Ashley Tisdale is also thrown into the mix. You can photos from the semi-awkward shoot after the jump.

High School Musical 3 To Begin Shooting This Month

Talk about a dream come true for High School Musical fanatics who just happen to attend East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The third installment of the wildly successful Disney Channel original made for TV movie is set to begin shooting before the end of this month according to the Associated Press.
The two previous High School Musical films were shot primarily at East High School outside of the school year. School district officials say most of the shooting on this film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, will take place before and after classes to minimize disruptions for actual East High School students.

Nose News: Ashley Tisdale
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Gossip,
High School Musical songstress Ashley Tisdale has reappeared after canceling two of her concerts post-surgery. (She supposedly went in to fix a ‘deviated septum’.) Recovery took longer than expected, but Tisdale is back to performing with her new nose.
Lots of celebs have had plastic surgery, shaving off a little here and there. Some celebs have had such minute changes made fans can hardly tell the difference, while others who have changed their look managed to cancel their careers at the same time. Anyone remember Jennifer Grey? Tisdale does look different, but maybe the diva will find her fame remains intact. Only time will tell.

Vanessa Hudgens Offered Raise for ‘High School Musical 3’
Wow. Wow. Ladies and gents, it’s now official. Apparently sex does sell.
Despite her now infamous photo scandal, Vanessa Hudgens has been asked back for High School Musical 3. And though Disney could have used the embarrassment as reason to lowball their offer, they have instead rewarded the nudie queen with a raise. According to Us Magazine, Ashley Tisdale has also been confirmed for the sequel—though I doubt her paycheck will be as ‘substantial’ as the one reportedly given to Hudgens.
I’m still not really not sure why I was surprised to hear this news. As a former marketing major, I’m fully aware there’s no such thing as bad publicity. And given Britney’s ability to still launch a hit album these days, it’s apparent the public really doesn’t care what celebrities do in their private lives anymore.
Now if Sabrina Bryan or any of the other Cheetah Girls were smart enough, they’d get themselves into some ‘trouble’ real quick; apparently Disney’s willing to shell out the dough.
